Struggling With Weak Nails? Here’s What You Need to Do

Weak nails are extremely frustrating, they keep on breaking and chipping off. It is not only painful but once one nail breaks you have to file the rest of them so that all the nails are of the same length. In order to ensure that the nails are strong and doesn’t break off frequently, you need to take few steps to ensure that the breakage is minimal and that the nails are strong!

Main Causes of nail breakage

There can be many reasons why nails break off but some of the main causes are:

  • Vitamin deficiency
  • Too little or too much moisture
  • over exposure to harmful chemicals
  • improper removal of gel or acrylic nails

Solution to the nail breakage

  • Dont forget your vitamins

Like your hair, your nails also need nutrients to grow and be strong. Vitamin C is the main vitamin that helps with the production of collagen which is needed for the nails to grow. Make sure you consume enough vitamin C through your diet. Vitamin B group like biotin is also very important for finger nails. Brittle nails that are prone to breakage is also because of iron deficiency. Make sure to consume alot of leafy vegetables, nuts and lean meat.

  • Moisturise your nails

A big cause of weak nails is lack of moisture or too much of it. Alot of times when we are washing dishes, we are exposing our nails to alot of moisture which is not a good idea. In alot of areas where there is dryness, nails tend to damaged. To restore the moisture of the nails, it is a good idea to use cuticle oil and lotion. You can also use olive oil, coconut oil on the nails which can provide hydration.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals

Nails that gets exposed to chemicals will dry out and lead to breakage especially if you are using household cleaners & bleach. Make sure to wear gloves before handling any of such chemicals so that your nails are protected!

  • Use a DIY soak 

A DIY soak can really help with the weakness of the nails. Take lemon juice, sugar and apple cider vinegar with warm water. Lemon has vitamin C that is crucial for nail growth. Apple cider vinegar can fight nail infections.

  • Use a base coat ALWAYS!

If you have weak nails, you dont have to avoid nail polish altogether infact if you wear nail polish, it will prevent your nails from breaking. It is best to wear a base coat that will serve as a protective coat and prevent breakage.
