How To tell If Your Hair Products Are Now Useless

How To tell If Your Hair Products Have Expired: We love to pamper our hair with a good haircare routine and are likely to spend more than fifteen minutes a day dedicated to it. So why do we so shamelessly neglect the expiration dates, of the very products we use to get healthy hair with? Whether it’s conditioner, hair serum or shampoo, we should be taking proper care of these things just as we would do with food. This guide tells us how to tell if your hair products have expired and are now useless.

How to tell if your hair product is expired without an expiration Code?

After a product’s expiration date has passed there may be noticeable changes in the smell, color, and texture. This can impact how effective the product is or cause it to become contaminated. There is a greater health risk with skincare or makeup that is contaminated. With hair products, the risk is lower. Still, it’s always best to stay on the side of caution and discontinue the use of any hair product that has expired.

How to check the expiration code?

Unfortunately, it’s entirely up to each individual brand if it wants to print an expiration date on its products, so many simply don’t. That said, some brands opt to include a Period After Opening PAO mark on their packaging to indicate how long the product will remain fresh after the first use. To find the PAO mark, look on your product’s label for a small drawing of a container marked with a number and the letter M. This indicates how many months this product will stay fresh after use. Alternatively, you can call the company’s customer service number and ask about their batch code and when the product was manufactured. Unopened products generally last for three years and once opened, one year.

How to make your product last longer?

Wow, that’s a long time to use conditioner! To make sure your products last as long as they possibly can, keep them out of the heat and light. A cool closet or drawer is better than a high-humidity bathroom and keep them sealed tightly when not in use. Also if you’re really committed to preserving your pricey products, consider using a special organizer or bag designed specifically to prolong the life of your beauty products.
