Like most things makeup, blush isn’t necessarily one size fits all.
Blush can be the easiest way to refresh, refine, and add life to the dullest of complexions. It is the easiest way to fake the look of health- that is, if you know what you’re doing! We know blush application seems fairly easy: you dip your brush in the product, pat off the excess and swirl it on your cheeks? Wrong answer!! Just like with eyeliner and contour, your face shape has a big part to play in this matter and can take your makeup look from flattering to a fail! Trust us, perfecting your technique according to your face shape will take you a long way.
Here’s how to fake it till you make it: the blush edition!
Identify Your Face Shape
Square: If you have a square-shaped face, the width of your forehead, cheekbones, and jaw will all nearly be the same.
Round: If you have a round-shaped face, all your measurements are equal, like those of a square-shaped face, but your face has gently rounded corners.
Oval: If you have an oval-shaped face, your forehead is larger than your jawline, and your face length is larger than the width of your cheekbones. Also, the angle of your jaw is rounded.
Long: If you have a long or oblong-shaped face, your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are similar in size, but your face length is longer.
Heart: If you have a heart-shaped face, your forehead is the widest part of your face. Your chin will also be pointed, and you may have a widow’s peak at your hairline.
How to Apply Blush for Round Face
If you have a round face with full cheeks, applying blush couldn’t be more simple. Your goal should be to make your cheekbones pop. For a “lifted” look, apply blush a little lower from the apples of your cheeks and extend it towards your hairline. This will bring dimension to your face.
How to Apply Blush for Square Face
Stick to the basics! Go for a classic blush application- put some color on the apples of your cheeks and lightly blend it outwards. This will soften your angular face shape. Less is always more for you! Add any more of this and it will only give an illusion of an even wider-looking face!
How to Apply Blush for Oval Face
You’re in luck, girl! You can use just about any technique and get away with it. However, if you want to add a bit more width to the centre of your face then apply blush on the middle of your cheeks and extend it towards your ear lobes, in upward swipes.
How to Apply Blush for Heart Face
The best way to apply blush for this face shape is by applying the blush slightly behind the apples of the cheeks and blending to the temples. Heart-shaped faces tend to look very strong or structured, and applying blush this way helps to soften the face shape. Use a “C” motion to apply blush, starting from the temples to the cheekbones.
How to Apply Blush for Long Face
Having a long face means you have more room for blush. Start under the pupils and blend to the middle of your cheeks. Apply it in a slight semicircle or a straight line to make your face appear shorter.
