There is a huge possibility that you are treating your dull skin like dehydrated skin and not even know about it. Have you ever started a skincare regime thinking you skin is dehydrated but it failed to work? that is probably because you didnt diagnose your skin correctly, what you thought was dehydrated skin was actually dry skin. The question is do you know the difference? It can be a little tricky so allow us to clear the misconception.
Difference between dry & dehydrated skin
People use these two terms interchangeably but they are quite different. Dry skin is when there is a decrease in oil production whereas dehydrated skin is when the top most layer of the skin has less water content than ideally it should.
How to tell if which type is yours: when you have dry skin you have an abnormal barrier function which means your skin will be red, inflammed and itchy. The skin will feel rough and can be flaky. On the other hand, dehydrated skin will look dull and will have more lines and wrinkles.
How to deal with dry skin?
Dry skin mostly has to do with genetics but with proper skincare you can keep it under control. Using moisturisers with heavy cream is important, make sure not to over exfoliate your skin as it will dry it out more. When it comes to cleansers make sure to use a gentle one. People with dry skin also suffer from dehydrated skin at times so it is essential that they keep their skin’s water content under control.
