Sculpting and contouring…
Started trending ever since Kim Kardashian’s makeup artist Mario made Kim synonymous with contouring! However, contouring has been around since the 1920s and 1930s to bring definition to characters faces in the movies. Makeup artists like Max Factor Sr. & Ben Nye truly brought the idea to the film world which now, thanks to Mario, has become an essential part of our daily makeup routine!
Contouring is different for every face shape! The general idea is to make your face more defined or – sculpted in other words!
it is important to understand how contouring works. Grey undertone is necessary when we talk about contouring as it mimics the natural depths & hollows of our face. This grey tone will help you either create the shade if it naturally doesn’t exist OR you could accentuate the natural shape.
Both cream and powder products work well given they’re applied correctly. Check out the areas listed to place the contour shade;
- Hollows of your cheeks
What is highlighting and why is it always mentioned with contour? Highlighting basically helps us to ‘sharpen’ the contouring we’re doing.
Contour is to push certain areas in and the highlight is to bring the other areas forward. Use a lighter shade compared to your skin tone and place it in the areas listed below;
- Under Eye
- Under the contour
- Bridge of the nose
- Centre of the forehead
