Acne Prone Skin? Avoid These Ingredients In Your Makeup!

If you are someone whose skin breaks out every now and then, it must be a real struggle for you to find makeup that suits you. It can truly be frustrating to find the right shade of product only to notice that it breaks out your skin badly. This can be avoided if you are mindful of the makeup products that you choose but when you have skin that is prone to acne then you need to avoid certain ingredients that are comedogenic which means pore clogging. Keep on reading to find out which ingredients you need to steer clear from.

OIL

These are almond, avocado and coconut oil. Many makeup product especially the natural ones contain these oils but just because something is natural, doesnt mean its not harmful.  These oils are certainly comedogenic and should definitely be avoided if you have acne prone skin,

FRAGRANCES

There are many fragrances that are added to makeup but the one to watch out for is benzaldehyde – this is an artificial fragrance used by multiple makeup products and it really clogs out the pores. If you have sensitive skin or acne prone skin, you should avoid fragrances at all costs. They really cause irritation, allergies and acne.

LANOLIN

Lanolin is basically skin oil of sheep, this should be majorly avoided by anyone who has acne prone skin as it is highly comedogenic and can cause breakouts. Other names for Lanoline is acetylated lanoline alocohol, ethoxylated lanoline, PEG 16 lanoline and solulan 16.

PETROCHEMICALS

These arent necessarily called petrochemicals on the label but still are pretty harmful for our skin, they come in different names such as paraffin wax, mineral oil or petrolatum. This is basically added to the makeup products to increase the shelf life of the product but it majorly clogs pores.

SILCONE

Silicone is yet another ingredient that causes break out and clogs the pores. Many primers are made of silicone which should be avoided if your skin is prone to breakouts. Another aspect of silicone is that it is extremely dehydrating which is quite damaging to the skin, if you have applied primer from morning till night, you are really aggravating your already sensitive skin. Instead of silicone, look for products that have hyaluronic acid that is hydrating and has plumping effect.
